A variety of new alcohol trends and predictions have emerged from a report by digital agency Kerve that examines how increasing experimentation by brands, and the changing tastes of consumers, influenced the alcohol sector in 2016; and conclude what it may mean for marketers and alcohol brands in 2017. One of the key predictions is that on-pack LED screens and VR packaging are predicted to become commonplace on high-end wine and spirit bottles. Research in the USA has already shown that tequila is growing faster than the overall spirits category, with one third of the spend going on ultra-premium tequila brands. Kerve’s report predicts that trend-hunting consumers will follow in the footsteps of their American cousins and move on from 2016’s favourite, gin.
