Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) is a department of Drug Safety Sciences within Janssen Research & Development, a division of Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V. Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics investigates the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of new drugs in development.
In the DMPK Department, Beerse site (Belgium), a position is available for a (m/f) (SENIOR) SCIENTIST METABOLITE PROFILING & IDENTIFICATION.
Job Description:
– Manage and coordinate the analytical activities for metabolite profiling (structural identification and quantification) in radiolabeled in vitro and in vivo ADME studies, to support safety and efficacy of new drugs in humans.
– Duties include the use of radiotracers, biological sample preparations, development of HPLC methods, metabolite isolation and purification by semi-preparative HPLC, structure elucidation, operation and maintenance of chromatography/mass spectrometric instrumentation, interpretation of MS spectra and reporting of MS structure elucidation in appendices to the study report.
– You are responsible for the proper conduct and reporting of metabolism studies, put data into the broader context, suggest and develop follow-up experiments and present data and/or studies to project teams.
– People management responsibilities can be a possibility depending on skills and experience.
– You keep abreast with the current advances in MS, automation and related technologies and you apply new technologies and methods for increasing sensitivity, quality and throughput and for accelerating research and improving the quality of scientific data of drugs in development.
Qualifications
Qualifications :
– The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Chemical or Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent with high skills (at least 4-5 years experience) in Mass Spectrometry (structural identification) and Analytical Chemistry in general.
– In depth knowledge of drug metabolism and biotransformation reactions is required
– You have excellent knowledge of organic chemistry
– Experience in interpretation of NMR spectra, knowledge of peptide and protein analysis, ion mobility separation or MS imaging is an asset.
– Trouble-shooting and maintenance of chromatography/mass spectrometric instrumentation skills are also required.
– Excellent skills on utilization of computer based applications is appreciated.
– You are able to independently develop methods and supervize procedures.
– You have excellent social, organizational as well as oral and written communication skills, including a good knowledge of English.
