Finalists for the WorldStar Awards’ four special categories have now been announced, with eight different countries waiting to hear if companies from their countries can claim the ultimate awards.
Packaging specialists from Australia, Nigeria, Germany, Israel, Greece, Austria Spain and Italy have made the finalists’ lists and the ultimate winners will be picked from these and given their awards in May, alongside the other WorldStar winners.
Until then, the names of winners for the President’s Award, Sustainability Award, Marketing Award and Packaging that Saves Food Award remain under wraps.
The awards ceremony and gala evening will take place on May 2nd, during the 1st WPO Board Meeting of 2018, in Gold Coast, Australia, at the same time as the AIP National Conference.
In no particular order, the special award finalists are as follows:
President’s Award: DuoSoft Cleanpack (OPTIXON); iPaint (CLP Industries Ltd, Israel), Green Packaging: Packnatur® Cellulose Net Packaging; Packnatur® Organic Wineglass Labels (VPZ Verpackungszentrum GmbH, Austria).
Sustainability Award: iPaint (CLP Iindustries Ltd, Israel); Bio-Lutions (Bio-Lutions International AG, Germany); Green Packaging: Packnatur® Cellulose Net Packaging and Packnatur® Organic Wineglass Labels (VPZ Verpackungszentrum GmbH, Austria); rPET PP*STAR®: from bottle to bag – closing the loop to 100% (Starlinger & Co. Gesellschaft m.b.H., Austria).
Marketing Award: Störtebeker Eisbock-Biere (Störtebeker Braumanufaktur GmbH, Germany); Beer Can/ALFA Weiss “Upside-Down” can (Athenian Brewery, Greece); Pelikan Embossed Nutella Jar ( MrSmith Studio, Italy).
Packaging that Saves Food Award: Fresh Technologies Ltd and Sealed Air Cryovac® Freshness Plus® (Sealed Air, Australia); Woolcool (Woolpack Australia Pty Ltd , Australia); Compostable Tray That Reduces Food Waste (Oneworld Packaging, Spain); Vegetable oil wrapper with high barrier polylaminate film (Shanghai Technologies Ltd, Nigeria).
A record number of 200 winners were awarded a WorldStar during the judging session held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in November, with Japan taking 26 awards, followed by India taking 24 and China, 14.
