Post-Doc Crystallization Technology Unit Job (Beerse, BE)

Post-Doc Crystallization Technology Unit-00000IWJ

Description

The Crystallization Technology Unit (CTU) located in Beerse (Belgium) is part of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) Small Molecule Development within Janssen. The primary focus of CTU is the development of the final API crystallization and downstream process steps (filtration, drying, milling). Solid form selection, salt screening, scale up and transfer to production are the main responsibilities within the CTU group.

In close collaboration with Drug Product Development, CTU is also responsible for complementary material prerequisites such as particle size distribution range, morphology, bulk density and powder flow behavior. In order to meet these goals CTU relies on a team of experts knowledgeable in different types of crystallization (cooling, evaporative, anti-solvent ?), advanced infrastructure (automated reactors and PAT tools) and a set of supporting key API particle tuning technologies.

The CTU group is continuously looking for creative and innovative solutions to tackle our most challenging projects and wants to expand the toolbox with new, advanced crystallization technologies.

The incumbent will be responsible for evaluating and developing new crystallization technologies. We are offering a temporary contract of 1 year in a very stimulating environment.

– You investigate the applicability of our recently developed in-house technologies with respect to scale-up and identify the limitations regarding our customers’ requirements by building test rigs and performing lab-scale crystallization experiments using in-line process analytical technology tools (PAT tools) and off-line analytical techniques.
– You can identify gaps in our current technological toolbox at different production scales (Lab, Mini Plant, Pilot Plant and Production Plant) and propose opportunities through optimization of current technologies to cope with these inadequacies.
– You assess and develop these new crystallization technologies to complement our current toolbox taking into account the prerequisites and boundary conditions of each production scale.
– You establish emerging correlations between the crystallization and subsequent unit operations further using technology assessment decision support modeling tools.

Qualifications

– You obtained a Master’s degree in Chemical (process), Mechanical, Bioscience or Industrial Engineering, Chemistry or Physics. Given the pioneering nature of the tasks described and the inherent scientific challenges, a PhD degree is an asset.
– You are passionate about science, engineering and technology in its broadest sense.
– You have a creative, open-minded yet a pragmatic and hands-on problem-solving approach.
– You can communicate efficiently and scientifically; obviously this implies good English writing and speaking skills.
– Data processing and presentation do not pose any obstacle (Expert user of Excel)
– Knowledge of crystallization, separation or particle technology is an asset but not mandatory

We are offering you a multifaceted challenge in a dynamic, international environment with attractive work conditions and career opportunities as well as a good infrastructure. If you are interested in this position, please apply online including application letter, CV and ideally reference letters.
